What makes a motorcycle jacket? The usual features you’ll find are a diagonal zipper, a buckle belt at the waist, and lapels that open out when its unzipped.

We offer many styles of men’s vintage jackets such as suede fringed cowboy styles, B3 sheepskin bomber style and cropped 70’s slim fit jackets but none as iconic and classic as the leather biker jacket. It’s a statement of a rebel, it’s tough, sexy, and classic. Every man should have one in his wardrobe during his life and keep it forever as a symbol of freedom, rebellion, and a reflection of his wild side.

Buying a leather jacket second hand is a great choice, because it’s already worn in. It looks cooler and it usually needs to be worn a lot to look lived in. It’s generally more comfortable when the leather has softened up a bit at the elbow and around the collar. There is a big price difference between new and second hand so its definitely worth looking into a second hand option. It’s a great, life long investment.

Biker leather jackets were originally designed for people who ride motorcycles. In 1928 Schotts created the “Perfecto” style. It was designed specifically for motorcyclists. Its distinctive asymmetrical zip meant that riders could lean across their motorcycle without the fastenings digging into them. In 1953, Marlon Brando wore one in the film “The Wild Ones” and ever since it’s been the hippest style of leather jacket in the world.

In the 1960s, the motorcycle jacket became a mainstream of the young and carefree, with everyone from up and coming musicians to The Beatles sporting it as a symbol of counterculture. In the 1970s, rock became the musical genre of generation, with tight clothed, greasy haired, and guitar bands adopting the motorcycle jacket as their uniform like The Ramones wearing it on the cover of their albums and giving the jacket another level of cool. Then in the 1980s, punk followed rock ‘n’ roll and the subculture gave the motorcycle jacket its most notorious transformation of all. During this time, the jacket was usually worn oversized and adorned with studs and metal spikes, by the likes of Billy Idol through to the hair metal bands of the day.

Leather jackets are made from a variety of animal hides. The most common choice for heavy duty jackets is cow hide but horse and buffalo can also be used. Lightweight jackets are usually made using hides from goats, pigs, and lambskin.
